French-born, Chicago-based Julia Dufossé is a self-taught designer & illustrator. Combining the inspiration from the airbrush aesthetics of the 70s and 80s with her own style in digital, she creates dazzling, dreamy, glowy, and slightly hazy illustrations. Color and texture -mostly grain- are among the prominent elements in her works.
Here’s what she says about the airbrush technique in her interview on Creative Review: “I think airbrush art can be so exhilarating and fresh. It has this amazing quality of seeming almost a little too real or too shiny.”
The designer is also one of the winners of The Design Kids’ 2019 Awards. The Design Kids asked where she saw her career after 5 years and the artist explained: “Hopefully, fully booked with editorial and commercial clients — doing work for people who enjoy my approach and feeling fulfilled. I hope to have also moved somewhere more secluded, where I can be surrounded by nature. I’d like to continue giving back to the design and illustration community by growing the podcast into an even more helpful resource.”
Julia Dufossé has worked with many brands such as Bandcamp, Shopify, Medium, NBC, The New Yorker, The New York Times, The Washington Post. She also provides design and illustration tutorials on Skillsshare.
