Inspired by her experiences and memories, Céline Raffy, an Egyptian-Lebanese illustrator and graphic designer, creates unique illustrations. Born and raised in Cairo, she draws her emotions and thoughts since her childhood as a way of communication.
Growing up, Raffy started drawing first as an escape from her shyness and as a reminder of her feelings. Her drawing habit turned into a more instinctive, sometimes experimental routine as she grew up. Whether it be a smell she just sensed, a memory about her mother, or the cartoons she watched as a kid, she is inspired by anything that creates an emotion in her. Although it is not a preferable choice of profession in her society, she has recently graduated with a Bachelor of Graphic Design at the German University in Cairo.
About the techniques on her illustrations, Raffy explains that she used to draw with solid colors, before trying gradients. While she added more colors to her palette in time, the research and constant practice helped her develop her current style. The Arabic typography that she frequently adds to her illustrations is another intuitive element in her authentic artworks. An overthinker when it comes to coloring, she wants to experiment further with her medium and develop her knowledge.
Céline Raffy has already collaborated with other artists and designed prints or posters for streetwear, album covers, and magazines. Follow her Instagram page @cellii.bellii to enjoy her visual stories more and dig a bit deeper into Egyptian millennial culture.
