Shanghai-based artist, illustrator, and creative wang2mu released a short animated film right before the 2023 ending. wang2mu’s story is based on the recent bubble tea craze happening all around the globe. The film is assumingly called Milk Tea or Bubble Tea because it’s translated from Chinese and it’s hard to be sure that translation is correct. The Chinese title of the film is 奶茶.
While wang2mu says, that they tried all sorts of alternatives of it but didn’t like any of it, on its Instagram post. It’s more like giving new chances constantly just to be disappointed.
The story has its noir setting while a piece of lo-fi music in the background makes it more modern. They create a great blend between the past and the present.
wang2mu leveraged so many different tools to make this piece a reality. Mainly the final version created on Blender. However, Adobe Photoshop After Effects, and Procreate take a part in the process too. Midjourney and ChatGPT were also used in the making as well.
The story is simple yet captivating and moving. You can find some behind-the-scenes GIFs as well below, but the GIF files are huge and it might take a while to be loaded.
