Paris-based illustrator Jiayi Li has a pure, glowing aesthetic. Airbrush vibes, anime aesthetic, humorous fruit sexuality can be seen in Jiayi Li’s works. Misty and glaring lights, gradients, details of reflection, and highlights are the most powerful characteristics of the illustrator’s work.
“Much of Jiayi’s aesthetic decisions stem from a Playboy magazine she found at a young age” in an interview with Its Nice That she explains her earliest aesthetic influence: “I was totally captivated by the beautiful nude photos. At that time I didn’t really understand the sexual dimension, but the application of hazy and glowing lights in the photos left a deep impression in my memory.”
It’s almost like the objects in Jiayi Li’s illustrations are radiating their auras. The works of the illustrator, who creates her works in the digital environment, appear in a vivid, bright, and sometimes wet texture almost as if they are flying off the screen. Black, purple, green, and blue are the most dominant colors in Jiayi Li’s color palette.
Here’s how she explains her creative routine in an interview with Carel Paris: “Working out enough to keep me seated for the day, trying to steal my cat’s willpower by petting him frantically, a lot of tea and procrastination, drawing until hunger comes.”
