Humanity lives in an organized and systematic structure, just like a beehive. Everyone lives their own life. It differs from others by its own values, hobbies, and tastes. On the other hand, we also have responsibilities towards the society we live in. We are responsible for ourselves and each other. Society is also responsible to us. And we come together on different occasions within all these unwritten rules. But meeting for our hobbies is also the most comfortable common ground to express ourselves. Because we gather there without considering professional interests such as work, however, some events stand out with their originality and differences. Documentary photographer Adam Powell, aka a_damp_owl, takes photos attending some of the USA’s weirdest events.
Adam Powell can blend in any community
NY-based British photographer Adam Powell explored the USA through its wide range of gatherings. He captures the weird, only-in-America type of interest events in a humorous way. And this weekend’s routine changed due to the pandemic. Now he usually walks around New York City and observes the things around him.
He has been with very diverse and niche communities. He’s attended some events; Heavy Metal Cruise, Hot Dog Contest, Mr. Fire Island Bear Weekend, Dyke March, Comic-Con. And all the work Adam Powell put out shows us every one of us has quirks and unorthodox hobbies. And people feel comfortable when they share the same weirdness.
