Photographer Erinn Springer was born in Dunn County, Wisconsin, and completed her bachelor’s degree in New York City. She is currently based in both Duluth, Minnesota and Brooklyn, New York.
Erinn Springer’s work is the outcome of experiencing both rural and city lifestyles. She honors the characteristics of rural life. However, amidst the predominance of urban living, people often overlook their roots in rural areas and the wisdom inherited from the land itself.
The “Dormant Season” series documents her journey of reconnecting with her home state. While spending time in rural Wisconsin, she gains a new perspective on rural life, its daily rhythms, and essential aspects.
As mentioned in the foreword of “Dormant Season,” Erinn Springer’s work raises more questions than answers about rural life and the Midwest.
She said “Dormant Season is an exploration of the contrasting realities of an evolving agrarian world. Created with my family and strangers, the work portrays connection and isolation through fleeting moments of the modern Midwest, where the story of self and society intertwines with the life cycles of the land. Textures of domestic life and illustrations of familial dynamics provide intimate glance into a realm that is both surreal and certain. Like regionalistic paintings, these mysterious and familiar tableaus reflect upon exterior and emotional landscapes to underscore a personal narrative within a larger American experience. Suspended between past and present, Dormant Season is a portrait of the intergenerational bonds of rural America: a mental space and physical place at the heart of an old dream and at the edge of a transformation.” to Boooooom.
Silvia S Hagge’s Five Eyes series is a result of struggle and relationship with her glasses. This collection of photos is a result of her frustration and decided to take them off.
